Next-generation plant, offshore and materials handling design solutions add enhancements to support mega-projects as adoption expands further.
Intergraph has released the latest versions of its next-generation plant, offshore and materials handling design solutions, SmartPlant® 3D, SmartMarine® 3D and SmartPlant 3D Materials Handling Edition. Collectively known as Smart 3D, they are the process, power and marine industries' most advanced and most productive design solutions with a focus on rules, relationships and automation.
All three Smart 3D 2011 Service Pack 1 (SP1) solutions are now available for upgrade or purchase. They are the most feature-rich, highest-quality releases of SmartPlant 3D, SmartMarine 3D and SmartPlant 3D Materials Handling Edition to date with nearly 1,200 enhancements and continuous testing over the past 20 months. Several significant Smart 3D customers have been involved in testing and piloting the Smart 3D 2011 SP1 solutions for production.
"Smart 3D is a very advanced and powerful solution which improves design and document quality, as well as data control – all while saving time and resources," said Terje Orbeck, CAD manager for Grenland Group, an experienced oil and gas engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company based in Norway, and a key SmartMarine 3D user. "Compared to our previous design system, we have improved our workflow considerably. Using Intergraph integrated Smart 3D solutions, Grenland Group is able to compete with larger engineering companies by increasing our quality and productivity."
The latest Smart 3D releases offer enhancements to Intergraph's innovative Reference 3D capability, which enables users to reference data from Intergraph Plant Design System (PDS®), Aveva PDMS and other formats – allowing companies to share piping, structural and equipment portions of Smart 3D models with multiple subcontractors without exposing other ultra-sensitive parts of the model. The capability offers opportunities for tremendous productivity gains on mega-projects while also protecting intellectual property.
Gerhard Sallinger, president of Intergraph Process, Power & Marine, said, "Intergraph has more than 45,000 3D design seats in use today – by far the most of any software provider in our industry. About 11,000 of those seats are Smart 3D, and its adoption has increased significantly in the past year alone. SmartPlant 3D and SmartMarine 3D are becoming the 3D solutions of choice for many of the world's leading EPC companies. Yet these same companies also must deal with the reality that they will partner on mega-projects with other EPC companies using other technologies. With these latest enhancements to our Reference 3D capabilities, this will not affect their productivity and can continue to maintain their competitive edge."
The latest versions of Smart 3D also offer improved design reuse and new modeling capabilities, such as functionality for circular and arced pipe modeling vital to the oil and gas, power and process industries. Enhancements have also been made to the electrical and duct modeling environments. Users can benefit from easier creation of project deliverables, improved management of change tools, enhanced 3D data viewing and manipulation and expanded sample catalog data. In SmartMarine 3D, new offshore and shipbuilding structural functions have been added for detailed design and fabrication of knuckled structures and rolled members. A full library of connections has been added to allow a rule-based selection of the appropriate end cut features. SmartMarine 3D also has a new service to find and manage "common parts," significantly enhanced the functionality to define and control marking on manufactured parts, as well as numerous other productivity and usability enhancements.
