IIT Kharagpur Emerges Winner of India's First Ever BIM Student Competition

Mumbai: Team Anarchy from IIT Kharagpur was declared the winner of the 2011 INDIA BUILDING INFORMATION MODELING STUDENT COMPETITION, held at the Sir JJ College of Architecture in Mumbai today. The competition was organized by I–BIM (India Building Information Modeling) Forum in association with Autodesk (NASDAQ: ADSK a leader in 3D design, engineering and entertainment software), academic partners and industry sponsors. The winners of the competition, in addition to receiving cash prizes, are being sponsored to attend the Autodesk University 2011 in Las Vegas, USA, where architects, engineers, and designers come together with industry and technology leaders to better understand new technologies, exchange best practices, and form new business strategies. Fujitsu also being the industry sponsor for the event will present the ‘Fujitsu Green BIM Champions’ award to the team that demonstrates the best environmentally friendly design.

With 3 students in each team representing over 150 participating engineering and architecture institutions, the regional and national contests were held during the months of September and October 2011. Student teams designed a Campus Wellness Centre in a major urban centre in India. Teams submitted their innovative and sustainable designs for evaluation by an eminent jury comprising of renowned industry experts.

I-BIM and Autodesk played a pivotal role in challenging students to create architectural and structural designs by offering students Autodesk’s BIM portfolio of Products - specifically Autodesk® Revit® Architecture and Autodesk® Revit® Structure software’s - to design the Campus Wellness Centre.

Autodesk and I-BIM have always strived to provide architecture, civil engineering and construction management students with the skills and tools requisite for success in their chosen profession of delivery and maintenance of the built environment. “The objective of 2011 INDIA BUILDING INFORMATION MODELING STUDENT COMPETITION was to sensitize young minds to India’s infrastructure requirements and engage them in developing innovative solutions to infrastructure needs of the nation.
