SysML Expert Dr. Chris Paredis to Make Keynote Address at CPDA's PLM Road Map Conference

Presentation will highlight the benefits of Model-Based Systems Engineering with SysML Riverside, CT – For Immediate Release – Collaborative Product Development Associates (CPDA), a provider of critical analyses for PLM decisions, announces that Georgia Tech’s Dr. Chris Paredis will make a keynote presentation at PLM Road Map™ 2011 which will take place at The Inn at St. John's, outside of Detroit, on October 4th and 5th.

In his keynote presentation, The Payoff for Model-Based Systems Engineering with SysML: Targeting Tight Integration of Software and Hardware, Dr. Paredis will highlight the benefits of Model-Based Systems Engineering with SysML. SysML supports the development of the growing range of products that rely on a tight integration between software and hardware, often referred to as mechatronic systems, embedded control systems, or cyber-physical systems. Introduced by the Object Management Group as a general purpose modeling language to support Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), the Systems Modeling Language (OMG SysML) extends the OMG Unified Modeling Language (UML) by including additional modeling constructs suited for modeling the physical aspects of systems in addition to the software aspects. In his presentation Dr. Paredis will review the current state of adoption of SysML in industry, and the challenges an organization faces when adopting MBSE. He will also take a look forward to identify and predict future trends in MBSE, specifically as they relate to the full potential payoff of knowledge reuse and architecture optimization. Dr. Chris Paredis has a broad, multidisciplinary background. His research focuses on Model-Based Systems Engineering, combining aspects of decision theory, information technology, simulation, and systems theory to support the design of complex mechatronic systems. In these areas, he has published more that 100 refereed journal articles and conference papers. He is active within the Object Management Group (OMG), leading a working group on the SysML-Modelica Transformation Specification and serving on the SysML Revision Task Force. Dr. Paredis received the 2007 CETL/BP Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award and the 2007 SAE Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award. In 2007-2008, he was the Chair of the ASME Computers and Information in Engineering (CIE) Division. From 1996 to 2002, he was a Research Scientist at the Institute for Complex Engineered Systems at Carnegie Mellon University. He received his M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium) in 1988, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 1990 and 1996, respectively.
